I Needed A Project

There have been too many changes the past few months. The hamster in my head keeps spinning on her wheel. Day and night and night and day. I can't sleep. My thoughts are continuously returning to the chaos. My brain JUST WON'T STOP! I needed a positive distraction...a project of some sort. A project large enough to do the trick but small enough to finish on my own and to complete within the newly assumed "tighter than last year's jeans" budget. Ahhhh...the hideous bathroom. I HATE this bathroom. We bought our house two years ago, and I have loathed this bathroom each and every day. Thing is, the tile is really well done. I can't in good conscience rip out perfectly maintained tile. Not to mention the price in a full bathroom remodel. Hmmmmm....where to begin?

From 2010.09.09

I started by ripping off the AWFUL wallpaper. You can't tell by the picture, but it has teeny-tiny black dots and little pink flowers. The border is black and white with a bouquet of pink flowers. Ewww. The walls had ZERO texture. That added an unexpected step to my little adventure.

I'm quite certain that Doug enjoyed watching me work. I turned around several times to find him snapping pictures of me.

Next...what color does one paint a black and white bathroom? Red was a common answer. White was another. Baby blue is NOT my thing. Hmmmm. I made a rather bold choice of GREEN! As I began painting, my friend Melissa looked at the color and said, "I'm a little nervous for ya, girl!" I can't tell you how much that pleased me. Melissa's an art major and this wasn't an obvious choice for her. Good. I didn't want anything obvious.

Yikes! It was very green. Maybe I was a little nervous for me, too.

I painted the sink vanity and replaced the nasty white pulls with brushed nickel.

Throw in a few more accessories...

Finding the right shower curtain was a pain in the booty. Not to mention shelf do-dads.

There we have it. Our bathroom all freshened up. I don't hate it anymore. :)

Still to come...Doug will build a black frame to surround the mirror and I am looking for a large green rug to replace the black ones. Now here's my question: Do we replace the light fixture or keep it? If I do replace it, any ideas?

From 2010.09.09

I would appreciate any and all helpful commentary on this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Now I know why every time I have had the urge to call over the past few days I have questioned if the time was good or not?!!
I vote for leave the light fixture -I think it's very vintage-ish cute and excuse me for asking but just where are you hiding this bathroom anyway?? I have never seen it??
WonderBoy pronounces your makeover as "Fabuloso" so there ;-)

I love the green! As for light fixtures I would go modern. Have recess lights. The kind on a metal rod that give off just a hint of color that can be turned to face different directions. Do t know if ikea is near by but they are fantastic for this stuff. Of course home depot rocks it to

I don't think you have to replace the light. I mean, you certainly *could*, but, at least in the pictures, it kinda goes with the style of your flower sculpture on the toilet. Congrats on doing such a great job of changing the character of your bathroom. I like it!

I think the light fixture goes with the wall hangings, so I'd keep it. I really like it, your downstaris bathroom should be the one you point company to from now on. It looks great.
